WORKSHOPS
The first workshop of the group was held at the City Inn, in Westminster, the day prior to the RCR Breast Group Annual Scientific meeting in London 2008. Information is available about the meeting, and the lectures given by Fiona Gilbert, Iain Lyburn and Chris Flowers are available to download, including some of the resources for the group
A second workshop was held in Belfast, November 2009, with the third planned for November 2010 in Brighton
The purpose of these workshops is to encourage good research practice and to stimulate research in breast imaging.
With the Royal College of Radiologists beginning their process of gathering the evidence for the new imaging guidelines we will focus on how this evidence is produced. The College is adopting a Delphi process and this methodology will be discussed. The process of undertaking a systematic review will be presented using the HTA mammographic surveillance project as the example for this. This will cover a brief summary of comprehensive literature searching, screening the literature, extracting data from papers and summarising the findings.
At the "research clinic" a panel of research experts will attempt to answer specific questions relating to your research. This will be an opportunity for you to develop and refine your research question and start to design a study. In order for this to be successful research questions should be submitted to Professor Gilbert two weeks ahead of the meeting by email f(dot)j(dot)gilbert(at)abdn(dot)ac(dot)uk
